#OnThisDay in 1994, the world lost Linus Pauling — the only person to have won two unshared Nobel Prizes. His brilliance spanned chemistry, peace activism, and humanitarian work.
@Cambridge_Uni@Cambridge_Uni what does modern athletics mean..? When was the historical watershed? Was there an ancient athletics match 151 years ago? (Mark Latimer - Clare Alumnus)
By the way - can someone advise me from this wonderful thread. Is this supposed to be the moment for me to challenge the VP in an IQ test? And if so will he participate? And when do we do it?
@southNJscoli@Davembmd Thanks for this paper @southNJscoli I am an avid JPO reader but had not read this previously. It puts some evidence to some of my experiences. @MrDanPerry will soon publish CRAFFT results which (I think) will further justify NOT operating...
@CUH_NHS I had the privilege to meet Mike More on several occasions. I was always struck by his excellent understanding of the macro and micro level issues in Addenbrookes. Whoever replaces him has big shoes to fill!
@TomWalshaw@OrthopodReg@TomWalshaw My experience is similiar to Simon's. There is a lot of racism but its different. A lot of white Australians think Aboriginals are still on an evoltionary journey... They meanwhile recognise that most Asian Pacific Rim arrivals beat them at EVERYTHING (except rugger)!
@OrthopodReg@OrthopodReg Simon I have no shame in discussing my Aussie salary. I did a year at Westmead Children's Hospital in 2007. I earnt $150,000 (Aus) lived in a Sydney harbour front appartment and had a speed boat on a jettie! But... we did 84 hr weekend shifts... Also bonus tax back!
@DrEilidhMaria@sas_sobauk Hi @DrEilidhMaria we have surgical rotation posts at Addenbrookes (looking to recruit any willing DGHs) which are not part of the national selection CST (Core Surgical Training) scheme but which the RCS accepts as equivalent. If you ever want to be a surgeon let me know..!
@DrEilidhMaria@sas_sobauk Hmm this is a tricky one. In my head I think all 'selection' in every situation should be based on merit, but in my heart I want to recruit and retain great UK trainees (of any ethnicity) to be our future Consultants and eminent GPs...
All East of England Core Trainees (CST and LED) are invited to a free MRCS anatomy course in Cambridge.
If you are interested scan the QR code to register.
Course run by Mark Latimer: I’m sure it will be excellent
