🥳Happy to present our manuscript on division plane orientation with Thijs de Zeeuw and @dolfweijers. Thankful to the co-authors Che‐Yang Liao, @KBuerstenbinder and especially #MGX team @RichardSmithLab@StraussSoe for their contribution🙏
Also had lots of requests for this one: a population density map of India. This was by far the longest render.
Well, except for furry France, which still holds the record.
#rayshader adventures, an #rstats tale
I’m finally ready to talk about the experience of appalling mistreatment we had with peer review of one of our papers.
This was by no means the only time I’ve had to contend with bias in academic publishing, but it definitely is the worst thus far.
A 🧵 (1/n)
Gathering some thoughts as a naive ECR about @eLife policy, journals, publishing, science & scientists & sharing in 🧵👇
*Disclaimer: I'm an ordinary postdoc who hasn't & probably won't make any moonshot discovery, may or may not stay in academia despite my love for science* (1/)
Here's what @eLife's new process means for you as an author:
➡️You decide whether to respond to reviewers
➡️You decide whether to revise your paper
➡️You decide when to publish a final version of record
➡️You have less reason to moan about reviewers at lab meetings 🙃
Academia is funny because it's like we put a whole bunch of narcissists who are used to being #1 at everything into a room together, lock the door, throw away the key, and then say oH mY GoD i cAN't bELieVe ThIS iS How iT TUrnEd ouT
New preprint on stomatal development in plant embryos 🌱 first work from my postdoc!
We find gradual, slow, synchronized stomatal (pre-)patterning during embryogenesis ⏳ and a strong developmental block that prevents embryonic differentiation.

Bohemian rhapsody for postdocs:
Is this a real job?
Or more like a PhD?
Caught in short contracts
No chance of stability
Open your eyes
Look up to PIs and see
I'm just a postdoc
I get no sympathy
Because I'm easy come, easy go
Stress is high
Pay is low
So proud and excited to share with you my post-doc paper @NikoGeldner lab 😍 it has been a journey to crack the subtle but essential function of CASPs !!! A lesson to “kill your darling” hypotheses and see what biology is telling you! Enjoy!!! https://t.co/R4rkmO8vL9
Several years in the making with the usual (and some unusual) ups and downs, so I'm very glad that it is finally seeing the partial light-of-day! We show that two RLPs are edge-polarised within the PM of growing Arabidopsis tissues (1/n)

Time to celebrate - our latest paper just got published @eLife :)
We reveal that endocytic trafficking coordinates cell and vacuolar surface increase, which is likely the reason why plant cells excel in the speed of cellular expansion.

Very happy, our new work on PVC is online! Thanks to my awesome team! Arabidopsis pavement cell shape formation involves spatially confined ROPGAP regulators: Current Biology https://t.co/zRJbQO2twn
Mutations are NOT random.
Check out our discoveries published today in @Nature!

Feeling super lucky to work with an amazing group of scientists on this unexpected and exciting line of research 🙏
Out now on Biorxiv: In a great collaborative effort we identified #cytoskeleton#IQD-KLCR modules as regulators of seed mucilage formation that regulate cellulose distribution. Special thanks to @cvoiniciuc and Bo Yang who brought the #plant#cellwall expertise to @IPB_Halle.
