@clhubes I realized ppl feel weird about showing up to birthday parties empty-handed, so when we invited my son’s class to his party, we asked that instead of gifts, they bring a new book to donate to the school. My kid was so proud to deliver a wagon full of books to his school!

@nickguillory I also hate that most workplaces have a hierarchy for which deaths matter more/earn more leave time. Don't make someone explain why their aunt's passing is more devastating than losing an absent parent. And f-off to the idea the loss of a close friend doesn't merit bereavement.
