@darianjshump Horror games have definite ends typically. There's not much of a race to become the "better FNAF" because once you've played it you've played it.
It helps indie games chances of survival when they don't still have to compete with titles from years ago.

@darianjshump Another thing to look at is what they're competing with.
People who play fighting games play the same games for years or decades, and only pick a new one up if it's substantially better while still being a similar enough style to what they like.
A very difficult target to hit.
