Yesterday in Yemetu, Ibadan, at the ACCORD Secretariat, I took a step that many people have been asking me about for months.

I have officially picked up my Expression of Interest Form.

Let me say it clearly — this is no longer speculation. This is no longer consultation. I am fully in the race for the governorship of Oyo State.

This decision is not about ambition for its own sake. It is about responsibility. It is about answering the call of our people who believe that governance in Oyo State can be closer, more responsive, and more humane.

I also opened our Campaign Office at Isale Alfa, Labiran Ibadan. That office is not just a building, it is a working centre for the people, a place where ideas will be shared, where young people will be heard, and where our movement will be coordinated from the grassroots upward.

Because let me be honest, power does not start from the top, It starts from the streets, from the wards, from the everyday people who carry the real burden of governance.

That is why I also supported our party structure today with a vehicle for our executives. If we say we believe in grassroots politics, then we must invest in it, not just talk about it.

I want the people of Oyo State to understand this: I am prepared and I am not coming into this race unsure. Unequivocally, I am coming in with clarity, with experience, and with the strength that comes from the people themselves.

Let me reiterate that we are going to run a different kind of campaign, one that listens more than it speaks, one that includes more than it excludes, and one that focuses on real issues, not empty promises.

To my teeming supporters, every young person, every market woman, every professional, and every community leader, I want you to know that this journey is yours as much as it is mine.

And by the grace of God, we will see it through together.

Campus politics taught me a lesson I have never forgotten: endorsement is not inheritance. Influence is not ownership. Leaders may recommend, but in every democracy, the people reserve the final right to choose

Let me share a quick story with y’all.

This 3.0 Agenda reminds me of my days in uni as Faculty President. I was popular, loved, and I commanded influence among the student populace. In fact, my administration was filled with remarkable achievements. There was improved student welfare, better protection, impactful projects, and a well-run faculty administration.

Fast forward to the election period. I thought I was the alpha and omega. Given the kind of love, influence, and respect I had earned from my students, I wanted to install a successor that would take the faculty to the next level. I approached it from the point of, “I know who is capable of continuing my legacy, who is fit for the job, and the affiliation the guy has with me,” instead of asking, “Is he truly who my students want? Would they automatically transfer the love and respect they have for me to him? Would he be accepted by them?” That was where I got it wrong.

We started the campaign. Primarily, my intention was to produce the next SU President because my faculty had never produced one. At the same time, I wanted to produce three Senators from my faculty who would be loyal to the SU President so as to make life easier for him since four of them were from the faculty and same faction.

Then came the politicking part of the whole process. We had two factions on campus then (I don’t know if they still exist). My camp fielded only one SU President, while the two factions fielded different senatorial aspirants within my faculty.

Here’s the most interesting part. For me to deliver the three Senators, I had to adopt them openly (as per numero uno of the faculty). I went on the faculty group and started stating the reasons why I was adopting the three senatorial candidates. The three Senators I adopted were from my camp, and wahala ensued. Lecturers and our Alumni were calling me, saying I should not have done that. A once-loved comrade suddenly turned to “Tiger Generator.” 😂 My opposing faction didn’t leave my neck either.

Fast forward to SU Election Day. I made sure I delivered my SU President (history was finally made), and I also delivered the three Senators I adopted. In fact, I was the agent for my “boy,” and I was feeling like a proud dad. They added more ranks to my shoulder as the leader wey produce leader. I was so proud of what we were able to achieve as a faculty, not even on a personal level. Little did I know, my shame dey front. 😂

Those boys I chop their eyes teamed up, and they were determined to deal with me at the faculty poll because that's where I wanted to install a successor. Unknown to me, I thought it would be a smooth ride just as it was during the SU election. Lo and behold, these boys dealt with me mercilessly. I no see draw for the faculty election. 😂😂😂

They dragged my life that night, insulted me, and called me all sorts of names. Imagine 100 Level students dragging Odidi leader. I was instructed to lock the group but I refused because I knew I had caused it and deserved to be dragged. I had made a political decision and people had every right to respond politically.

If I could openly campaign for my preferred candidates, they were equally entitled to reject my choices. They dragged me for a whole 24 hours and most of my friends expected me to lash out and get angry with them. Rather, I went to the group the following day, pacified everyone, and appealed that normalcy be restored.

Key takeaways from this:

• Leaders may nominate but the ultimate power to choose their next leader rests with the populace.

• My influence helped but it could not override the independent judgment of the electorate when it mattered most

This right here is the bitter truth. 2027 elections won’t be a normal kind of election. There will be many unpopular paths that majority of the candidates will tow in this coming election

Today, I took another important step in the journey towards building the Oyo State of our dreams.

I am pleased to announce that my governorship candidate profile as the Accord (A) candidate for the 2027 Oyo State Governorship Election has been successfully submitted on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Candidate Nomination Portal.

This marks another milestone in our collective movement. It is not the finish line. This is in fact a reminder that the real work has just begun.

I am most grateful to every supporter, volunteer, stakeholder, and every son and daughter of Oyo State who has believed in this call. Your prayers, encouragement, and unwavering commitment have brought us this far. I do not take your trust for granted.

This mission is about building a government that truly serves the people. A government where you matter as much as I. It is about creating opportunities that include everyone, and ensuring that every single community in Oyo State feels the impact of good governance.
