It’s true that the coverage was very negative in the last week - he had a lousy week -and that there’s a lot of anti-Trump hostility in the press. Some of that he brings on himself (such as Kennedy Center). So the banning of 3 news outlets definitely helped change the narrative

Trump said it’s a special privilege to be in the pool “in my—the people’s house.” He caught himself there. But courts have held that if you allow some journalists into these tight situations you have to open it to all. POTUS says coverage is unduly negative (not inaccurate)

The refusal of ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox to join Trump pool events after the president banned CNN, MS NOW & Politico is only in effect for today. They don’t view it as a boycott but it’s certainly a symbolic protest against the banning. It’s not a special privilege to be in the pool

Bloomberg reports that Paramount has settled the suit by state AGs, clearing the way for its takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery, which includes CNN. No details yet but Bloomberg says will be announced today. Huge mega-merger that reshapes the landscape. Paramount avoids penalties

When Obama barred Fox from one pooled event, the other networks rallied in support. Now we have Fox joining other major news outlets against the Trump ban. POTUS won’t be happy with lack of pool coverage, and in any event courts are likely to strike it down under 1st Amendment

Fox News Washington Bureau Chief Bryan Boughton announced there will be no pool coverage of Trump after his ban of CNN, MS NOW and Politico. Major news organizations are effectively boycotting pooled presidential events to protest the ban, which Trump ties to negative coverage

Of course, the “banned” news outlets can continue to aggressively cover Trump and company without being physically in the White House - as has happened at the Pentagon, when Pete Hegseth booted all those who wouldn’t agree to submit their stories for approval

When asked about “fake news” by CNN, MS and Politico, the president spoke of relentlessly negative stories and ignoring good news. Even if he’s right, he’s not challenging the facts, he just doesn’t like the coverage - and that hardly justifies banning journalists from the WH

MS NOW and other reporters turned away at White House gate. This is what Trump wanted, a media-focused controversy to steal attention from bad polls and bad midterm news - even though courts will probably overturn his ban on the three news outlets
