⚠️ Area Hydrologic Discussion ⚠️
“Considerable and life-threatening flooding impacts will continue to increase in the area of concern through the early afternoon hours. Rainfall has been ongoing for the past several hours, priming soils for rapid runoff as rainfall continues through
the day and into the evening hours. While intense rainfall rates may not be prolonged at any one location, training rainfall over many areas is likely, especially from northwestern TN through portions of western and central KY. That runoff will then enter rivers and streams with flows that are already above normal, setting the stage for flash and small stream flooding. Urban areas, as usual, will remain particularly susceptible to considerable impacts due to widespread impervious surfaces.
The NWM Short Range Forecast, forced by the HRRR, suggests widespread potential for rapid onset flooding across the area of concern, with the highest probabilities in portions of northern TN and central KY. Associated annual exceedance probabilities on streams and smaller
rivers in many areas are as low as 2%, suggesting that flows on those reaches will likely be significant. While high water arrival times are generally within the next several hours, peak flows are forecast in the late evening to early overnight hours. With rainfall expected to continue into the evening hours, a successive Area Hydrologic Discussion for areas in and near the current area of concern will
likely be necessary.”
Behind the Scenes: Flood Season Edition! 🌧 From pulling boats to electrical work, a lot of prep goes into bracing for substantial rain at the Cave. This weekend, we'd like to share some never-before-seen content on what that means for the Cave. Stay tuned! #kywx
When it rains, it drains. In Bowling Green, #stormwater and pollutants picked up by stormwater, are carried into our cave system. Be on the lookout for our new curb markers reminding you to #keepitcleanbg!
I would like to suggest to @YETICoolers that they begin the development of gravy boats for release the 2022 Holiday season. While everyone else is on a diet, I just made gravy and put it in a Yeti cup*. #Yeti#gravy#NewYearsResolution *not for drinking, but to keep heat
Did you know Bowling Green has an outdoor classroom at Preston Miller Park on Jennings Creek? A storm water professional will explain the health of our water shed. Anyone interested in bringing their class to the city's outdoor classroom should email [email protected].
Our Public Works crews are on call for any severe weather. Crew leader Tony Phelps operates the knuckle boom as his crew clears debris from W 14th Ave tonight #alwaysoncall#yourcityatwork
*WE NEED YOUR PICTURES*

@grameyphoto@joeimel It looks like someone is failing to do their weekly construction site Erosion Prevention & Sediment Control inspections...🤦🏻♀️ ironically necessary in part BECAUSE of rain clouds like these....
Loving our Public Works Operations Division today! They rescued a baby duck that fell into a storm drain this morning on Suwannee Trail St. Fortunately, these storm drains empty to a retention pond where the baby duck could be rescued. Here’s hoping for a reunion with mommy!
#whyiwearmymask when I do need to be at the office or on-site, I want to protect my “work family”! The shameless plug front and center and the fact it keeps my hair out of my face are just bonuses! #keepitcleanbg with a whole new meaning. @CityofBGKY
