Pappas Seafood Co., a Maryland institution famous for its crab cakes, has been sold to New York-based Teamshares for an undisclosed amount, ending decades of family ownership.

▪️ NEW OWNER: Teamshares acquires small businesses with a stated goal of transitioning ownership to employees.

▪️ EMPLOYEE OWNERSHIP: Workers receive an initial 10% stake. Teamshares aims for 80% employee ownership within 20 years.

▪️ FIVE LOCATIONS: The deal includes Pappas’ restaurant and seafood operations, including its Perry Hall distribution facility.

▪️ FAMILY TRANSITION: Steve Pappas will remain involved during the transition, potentially retiring within two years.

▪️ WHAT CHANGES: Teamshares plans to appoint a new president, improve operations and pursue profitability. Pappas says customers should expect the same restaurants and crab cakes.

🚨 NATIONWIDE RECALL: 1.58 MILLION POUNDS OF MEAT RECALLED — MARYLAND CONSUMERS WARNED

Kayem Foods is recalling 1,584,361 pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry after a warehouse refrigeration malfunction potentially exposed products to unsafe temperatures.

The USDA has classified the recall as CLASS I — HIGH HEALTH RISK, its most serious category.

▪️ PRODUCTS: Hot dogs, bacon, sausages, deli meats, ham and turkey products distributed nationwide.

▪️ CAUSE: A customer reported receiving warm products October 1. Investigators traced the problem to improper warehouse cooling.

▪️ DATES: Affected products were manufactured March 31–October 7, 2026.

▪️ CHECK LABELS: Look for USDA establishment numbers 7839, 20935A or 9520, and verify against the official recall list.

▪️ ILLNESSES: No confirmed illnesses have been reported.

MARYLAND CONSUMERS: Do not eat recalled products. Throw them away or return them to the retailer.
