This image is mad colorful! But what it really is a Phage G major capsid protein hexamer and decoration protein trimer arrangement. This image shows the structure gp27 hexamers and gp26 trimers positioned at the 3-fold axes around the hexamers. Feeling #twsited !

What do trees and I have in common? We both came from soil! 🌴
Bacteriophages were isolated from the soil using Bacillus megaterium atcc 19213 as host for isolation, propagation, and assay. By growing Nutrient Broth (Difco) cultures on B. megaterium with 2 to 6 p.f.u./bacterium

#selfiemonday , selfie of me stretching out and showing off my length! Check out my tail, "Tails measure ~410 x 20 nm in the extended state, are surrounded over their complete length by a single spiral fiber, and carry a bundle of indistinct, curled terminal fibers". Source below
Feeling #blessed for the ocean bc cobalt is my fave color! 💙 I require Co2+ for optimal propagation, so it just makes sense, okrrr!

they say there may be a map on the back of the Declaration of Independence, but what they don’t tell you is it’s a genome map ;) 626 kbp in length.

some of the other phages wanted to DNA wrestle but they can’t beat me, the molecular weight of my double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) genome is 4.9×108 daltons! Can’t beat that! 🧬💪🏽

TBT 1968 when Gianfranco Donelli reported the isolation and initial characterization of ME (Bacillus megaterium bacteriophage named phage G).
Thanks Don :)
If there was a competition of which phage is bigger I would def win : I’m reported to have the largest genome of all discovered Myoviridae with nearly 700 protein-coding genes. 🧬 💪🏽
