The Curse
"W-WHAT?!?" Malfoy stammered, her cheeks growing flushed as eyes opened wide. "Th-That can't be right! Check it again!"
"I have already checked, Miss Malfoy...Thrice," Snape responded coolly in his drab, sneering tone. "There is not an ounce of any potion inside your body as of this moment. You are, as the expression goes, 'fit as a fiddle.' Though if you are indeed harboring a crush on young Potter, it is possible you need you head thoroughly examined."
"I do NOT have a crush on POTTER!" Malfoy sneered, her eyes growing watery from raging pride. "If it wasn't a potion...maybe it was some jinx or hex! Maybe even the Imperius Curse! Yes, yes that's it! I bet that Granger girl taught him how to do it! Wait until my father hears about this, he'll have them both thrown in Azkaban for disrespecting-"
"MISS Malfoy!" Snape snarled, his visage turning dark as his patience with the girl reach its boiling point. "Your feelings towards Potter are not the work of any magical incantation or elixir. They are solely the result of the utterly dreadful yet still perfectly natural part of the body known as teenage...hormones."
Malfoy froze, eyes as wide as saucers and her hands trembling before she remembered herself, her surprise seamlessly transforming into seething rage.
"I...I...how DARE YOU?! You accuse ME of having a...a stupid schoolgirl crush on...on POTTER?!? I am Dracaena Malfoy! Not some smitten floozie!!! My father will have you FIRED for making such an accusation against me!"
"Yes, I am certainly sure he will try," Snape answered dryly, grabbing Dracaena roughly by the arm pulling her to the exit of the potions classroom. "But until such a time, I will not be bothered by your frivolous little love games with young Mister Potter, is that clear?"
"Frivolous?! LOVE games?!? How DARE you suggest-"
"IS THAT CLEAR, Miss Malfoy?" Snape hissed, looking as if he may strangle Dracaena if she persisted further.
"I...yes, Professor Snape..." Malfoy finally acknowledged, drooping her head in defeat as Snape pushed her out the door, slamming it shut.
Snape could hear the muffled pouting of Dracaena as he walked back to his desk, ramblings of hexes and jinxes and potions and Potter as the noise slowly faded down the hallway. As Snape sat down in his desk, he could feel his pulse had quickened, not out of fear or panic, but...nostalgia. He had seen the look that was in Dracaena's eyes once before...a long, long time ago...from eyes never meant for him.
"Damn Potter..." Snape mumbled under his breath, gripping his quill tighter than usual as he resumed his work grading papers. "You don't need any magic at all to curse us, do you?"
