The Federal Court has today ruled that Australian citizen Dan Duggan will be extradited to the United States, where he faces up to 65 years in prison for conduct that wasn’t even an offence under Australian law. It's deeply distressing news for so many.
According to @abcnews - a delegation of United Nations inspectors has delivered a scathing assessment of Australia's treatment of prisoners and other detainees, following a 12-day visit to the country.
The UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention (WGAD) Chair, Ukrainian lawyer and former European Human Rights court judge Dr Ganna Yudkivska, said that the 42 per cent of prisoners that were unsentenced in Australian prisons meant almost half of the country's prison population was "legally innocent".
"Bail laws have been repeatedly tightened, often because of what we see as populist reactions to some headlines in media about high-profile crimes rather than based on evidence," she said.
Dan Duggan has been locked up since October 21, 2022, facing no Australian charges. He spent over 19 months in solitary confinement, a breach of United Nations rules and considered to be torture.
The Duggans have amassed substantial legal fees fighting Dan’s extradition and imprisonment. Please donate to help the family: https://t.co/LvlqI4s7sF

Matilda's family have agreed to share her photo and first name. The youngest Bondi terror attack victim.
Rest in peace beautiful girl.
She is 10 years old. I have a 10 year old daughter too. ❤️🩹
It is not hard or complex to stand against all forms of racialised hatred & violence
Rob Reiner’s five-film run from 1986 to 1992 is as impressive as they come.
Five unforgettable movies spanning five different genres is something not just any director can pull off.
Rest in peace.
It's hard to imagine the fear at Bondi Beach as the attack during Hanukkah unfolded. Still, Sutherland fruit shop owner Ahmed al Ahmed chose courage—lunging forward, disarming the shooter, risking his life for strangers. He is a hero. He is the Australia we all know & believe in.
Shout out to the #bondi beach life guard who, while there was shots being fired and we were all ducking for cover behind their buggy, noticed someone in the water struggling so grabbed a board and went to rescue them

Netanyahu reveals to Hebrew audiences after the press event where Trump revealed the 20-point plan to end the war on Gaza, that he has no intention of withdrawing Israeli troops from Gaza – “No way, that’s not happening.”
He said:
“This is a historic visit. Instead of Hamas isolating us, we turned the tables and isolated Hamas. Now the entire world, including the Arab and Muslim world, is pressuring Hamas to accept the terms we set together with President Trump: to release all our hostages, both living and deceased, while the IDF remains in most of the Strip. Who would have believed this? After all, people constantly say, the IDF should withdraw… No way, that’s not happening.”

With 20 days until the Federal Court challenge, we need to raise as much money as we can to help the Duggan's beat this ridiculous charge and bring Dan home.
Lawyer fees-for here and the US, travel costs, phone call costs, rates on a seized home; money is flying out the door with not much coming back in. We need $300k by next month and we are not even halfway to getting that. This has been one big expensive, long-drawn out, unnecessary circus. No legal aid offered, abandoned by the government, it is now up to us to bring Dan home.
Please if you can help in anyway, donate here: https://t.co/qyogQjnOR8

Netanyahu message to those who recognise Palestine 🇵🇸:
‘It will not happen’
‘We have prevented it with determination & political guile’
‘We have doubled 🇮🇱 [illegal] settlements in the West Bank 🇵🇸’
‘🇮🇱 will respond’
Illegal. Sinister. Evil.
Israel 🇮🇱 is a terrorist state.
AUKUS: An Acronymic Adventure
Australia Unfriends Kiwis, Undercuts Sovereignty—
That’s AUKUS, mate, pronounced "awkward" (how apropos).
An alliance spelled out in karaoke capitals,
Allies United Kindly Undermining Security.
A is for Aspirations (or American Approval—take your pick),
where submarines are submarined beneath rising debt
and Canberra dreams of stealth, while potholes bloom
on neglected highways back home.
U stands for "Uncertain," but let’s say "Underwater"—
as in the billions sinking, plankton-rich,
into nuclear-lit oceans.
Uncle Sam grins, pockets jingling;
underneath the Southern Cross,
uniformed photo ops multiply
like trilogies in a bad franchise.
K is a silent knot in our stomachs—
or perhaps "Kung-fu Posture":
Karate-chopping diplomatic ties with neighbours,
Kicking up kelp in the South Pacific,
Kiwis left outside, nibbling on ANZAC biscuits,
while we kneel for nuclear baptisms.
U could be “Unilateral”—
decisions drafted somewhere overseas,
urban legends about sovereignty
echo in emptied Parliament halls.
Upstream, uranium contracts flow
unfurling bureaucratic origami.
S for “Security”—a word so often repeated
it sounds like “Subterfuge” or “Spinoff”
from an empire anxious it’s losing top billing.
Sovereignty swapped for a submarine selfie:
smiles all round, till the bill arrives
and Pacific trust evaporates.
So, AUKUS:
Awash in Unintended Konsequences, Useless Submarines.
A parade of acronyms, alliances, and armaments—
all arranged extra carefully to
Assure Unenviable Karma Upon Signing.
Australia, listen:
Don’t anchor yourself to the anachronism,
Unmoor from the undertow,
Kiss goodbye the Kool-Aid.
Understand: security with a price
is often too costly for an island adrift.
Sail solo, or at least choose your crew.
AUKUS? It's time to Ask U Kindly Un-Subscribe.

Formal recognition of the state of Palestine overnight is a welcome step but we must also listen to the experts outlining what further steps Australia & other nations must take to prevent the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

⚡️🇮🇱BREAKING: Israeli PM Netanyahu:
"A Palestinian state will not be established. The response to the recent attempt to impose a terror state in the heart of our land will be given after my return from the US"
"I have a clear message to those leaders who recognize a Palestinian state after the terrible massacre on October 7th: you are giving a huge reward to terror.
And I have another message for you:
It will not happen. A Palestinian state will not be established west of the Jordan River.
For years I have prevented the establishment of this terror state despite enormous pressures both from within and from outside.
We did this with determination, and we did it with political wisdom.
Moreover, we have doubled Jewish settlement in Judea and Samaria — and we will continue on this path.
The response to the recent attempt to impose a terror state in the heart of our land will be given after my return from the United States. Wait."
