Many Iranian conscripts opposed the very dictatorship that forced them to serve. Canada must not punish victims alongside operatives. Assess each case fairly.

We support the strongest lawful action against IRGC operatives. But forced conscripts are victims of coercion, NOT willing members. Canada must distinguish the two.

Canada has always stood for fairness and human dignity. We ask decision-makers to recognize the difference between those who had a choice and those who did not. Families deserve justice, not uncertainty.

Dennis Horak warned your committee on June 12, 2024 that conscripts could be caught in measures meant for the worst offenders. That warning deserves a response. What safeguards protect people who only completed compulsory service?

The June 12 hearing raised concerns about conscripts. Where was the focused discussion of immigration consequences for their innocent wives? Women carry their own fears while supporting their families. Don’t their futures deserve a hearing too?

@MarkJCarney @AliEhsassi Parliament heard warnings about conscripts on June 12, 2024. But what about the immigration consequences for their children? A child receiving a letter they cannot understand deserves more than silence. Aren’t their rights and futures worth debating?

Supporting Canada's decision to list the IRGC does not mean supporting the punishment of people forced to serve under it. We can stand against the IRGC while defending innocent conscripts.
