All good things must, unfortunately, come to an end. It's been a great joy to have @gabbspalomo in our lab the last couple of years. Sad to see her go, but happy to have made a friend and future collaborator.
Out lab's talks continue today with @gabbspalomo talking about potential human-deer interactions with an eye towards SARS-Cov-2 spread. Come check out their talk at 2:45pm in Key 2.
This year our lab will have 5 (!) talks and a poster at #TWS2024! Come check them out! First up today is Szandra Peters 1:45pm Key 2 talking about deer-human interaction and potential disease transmission. Szandra is not technically in our lab, but a major collaborator with us
It's Tuesday! Come check out @HerreraWildlife's talk at 11:30 in Peale A-C. A fun study pairing audiomoths with cameras in Washington, D.C. to understand how noise and light influences urban wildlife vigilance
I am an avid bike commuter, I bike to College Park everyday, but don't bike my kids to school (1 mi) anymore because of the drivers. When I muster up the courage, I am a nervous wreck even though there is bike infrastructure the whole way.
At school drop off this morning I watched a car go around 4 cars and run red light at Upshur and 13th between Roosevelt HS, Sharpe campus, and Powell ES. This was right in front of a crossing guard and police officer sitting on the corner. @CMLewisGeorgeW4@charlesallen
💯 On Monday, a child was struck in a crosswalk in Ward 6 by a driver swerving around a car at 🚦, leaving her with broken toes & tire marks on her leg. He was simply issued a ticket, even with his 80+ speeding tickets/$18K+ in fines he owes. He shouldn’t be driving in DC. 1/2
Cyclist was so shaken up she had to stop and gather herself after the interaction. Sadly, this isn't uncommon in this particular school zone. DC is a beautiful city, generally has bike friendly infrastructure and is walkable in theory. But these drivers make all of that obsolete.
@scat_dogologist I have been getting these ads, and for a job like yours’ I see the utility. But what do you think the appeal is for linking a dog gps with your own for the everyday person? I’ve been trying to figure out how this would give me any different data.
