Cerebellum Plays Crucial Role in Skill Retention and Memory
New research has pinpointed the cerebellum as essential for forming long-term motor skill memories, suggesting a division in the brain between short- and long-term memory functions.
While the medial temporal lobe (MTL) governs long-term declarative memories like names or dates, the cerebellum supports lasting motor skills such as riding a bike.
Using data from previous studies, researchers discovered that individuals with cerebellar damage showed impairments in motor tasks involving longer intervals, underscoring the cerebellum’s role in sustaining motor memory over time.
Notably, these individuals performed nearly as well as healthy individuals on tasks with short intervals, further illustrating the cerebellum’s influence on long-term motor skills.
These findings provide valuable insights into how distinct brain regions manage different memory types and could help shape future treatments for memory impairments.
Understanding the cerebellum’s functions may lead to new therapeutic interventions for motor learning deficits.
It's a wonderful surprise & honour to be included on #Time100Next.

Think about this.
The average billionaire on the Forbes 400 list could spend $10,000 every single day for 274 years and still have billions of dollars left in the bank.
Don't you think that maybe, just maybe, these guys should be paying more in income tax than a teacher?
Them: You don't look autistic
Me: You don't see it because my autism mostly effects me. I've spent most of my life minimizing the impact it has on others (for them, not for me)... and now you don't see it, but I feel it twice as much
just a reminder that depression in cis men often goes overlooked because they may present as uncharacteristically irritable, stubborn, aggressive, controlling, or reckless instead of “sad”
