This is called occupational devaluation or, in sociology, the pollution theory of gender segregation. It has been found and corroborated again and again. Basically, the more women do something, the more men devalue it, exciting the career or activity because participation is perceived as low status and feminine.

Rather than women being "responsible" for chosing low paying jobs, the jobs and tasks become lower paid as soon as a sufficient amount of women do them. Sociologists liken these fields to being "polluted" in the eyes of many status conscious men, who then exit or never enter the occupation.

You probably all know about real world examples like programming, veterinary medicine, and HR, administrative work, and college in general, but there is one example from history that is far more telling, and I haven't seen very many people talk about it.

In England after the Black Death, wages were quite high for laborers, due to labor shortages, and women enjoyed pay parity with men in many sectors. The nobility did not like that. So in 1388, during the reign of Richard II, the Statute of Cambridge was enacted to set explicit wage ceilings per job title and gender.

For example, a male shepard could make 10 shillings a year, but a female one could only make 6, and she was not allowed to become head shepard, by law.

Subsequent renewals of the law institutionalized a gender wage gap, forcing women into long-term, fixed contracts capped at artificially depressed, lower rates. Commentators at the time even remarked that they didn't see women shoveling dirt, for example, any slower than men, but the gap was justified on the greed of laborers and maintenance of the feudal order.

This gap persisted and became mythologized as evidence that, all along, women's labor was just inherently less valuable. In subsequent periods of England, women were even forbidden from working outside of the home entirely, and raises in men's wages in response to unrest (literally "breadwinner" comes from the concept that they were to win the bread of the entire family) were justified by the amount of unpaid purely domestic labor women did to assist him in the family's chosen profession.

Everything you think you know about the gender pay gap is a lie. The gap is often manufactured, and then justified by those who forget the origins of it. It then persists by social engineering, and the invisible sexist biases of people who flee "women's work" or chose to pay it less, and instead blamed entirely on the choices of women.

🚨BREAKING: An ICE agent POINTED A GUN at a U.S. citizen, through her car window, while threatening her, in Falls Church, Virginia.

And the excuse?

They claimed she “almost ran them over.”

Except… she had a dash cam recording the entire thing.

She immediately called their bullshit:

“You are so full of shit. I didn’t almost run anyone over.”

The agent tells her, “You aren’t funny.”

She responds, “You aren’t funny.”

Then he threatens her… “Keep it up, I will arrest you.” While he has his gun aimed inches away from her.

She says, “I’m a legal citizen, for what?”

And they keep threatening her with arrest.

Then, the agent repeats the accusation that she tried to run them over.

So, she tells him, “Run you over when? I have dash cam recording. That’s a lie.”

And suddenly… they WALK AWAY.

Because if she had actually tried to run federal agents over, why did they just leave after she called their bullshit, and said she had video proving them wrong?

And just to emphasize the seriousness of what happened…

An ARMED federal agent had his GUN POINTED AT A WOMAN, through her car window, while threatening her with arrest.

Pointing a firearm at someone is an enormous use of force that should NEVER be treated casually… especially when the supposed justification is an accusation they apparently couldn’t… or wouldn’t… back up.

She wasn’t arrested.

They didn’t show her evidence that she committed a crime.

They just threatened her, pointed a gun at her, and repeatedly told her they would lock her up if she continued following them.

And the SECOND she says, “I have it on dash cam,” they WALK AWAY.

Because apparently the threat disappears when there’s a camera that can prove what actually happened.

This is exactly why people need to DOCUMENT these encounters.

Because when armed federal agents can point guns at citizens, and make accusations with seemingly no consequences, the public needs cameras.

And when they threaten you for asking, “For what?”

A kindergartner down the hall is between chemo treatments for leukemia. Her doctors can’t vaccinate her, no matter how much they want to.

Measles floats in that classroom’s air for two hours after your son leaves, so she never has to be in the room with him to catch it.

Her immune system can’t fight off what a healthy kid’s body handles in a week.

Same danger for the six-month-old child down the street, because they’re too young for their first dose.

They’re only alive because everyone else in that building stayed vaccinated.

One infected kid in a full room can infect twenty others. No common infectious disease spreads faster.

Your decision about your own child just endangered other people’s children.

This poor child is dead in Texas because her parents are idiots who think they’re smart.

When I worked in the ER, a college aged girl came in. The doctors suspected meningitis based on her symptoms but they had to hurry and do a spinal tap (PUTTING NEEDLES IN YOUR BACK) to diagnose. The doctor told me “she’d already be dead if it was bacterial” just because of how long she waited to come in
