I fed my husband a high fertility diet for 12 months before conceiving in the first try 🙃
His diet consisted of:
- Daily: (raw) milk, butter, salt, dairy, beef, eggs, fresh fruit/OJ, 1 Brazil nut, carb source like (sweet) potato and (pine) honey
- Multiple times a week: sardines, oysters, bone marrow, ice cream, coffee with milk and sugar, sourdough, jam, chicken, ice cream, bone broth or salmon head soup, white fish
12 months of 0 alcohol, 0 cigarettes, 0 drugs.
WE'VE BEEN OPTIMIZING THE WRONG HALF, focussing mostly on the woman's fertility 🤭
Many people insist that God should have made humans fundamentally good, as if goodness is something a creature could possess like height or eye color. It isn't.
Goodness belongs to God alone, and everything else that has ever been good was only good on loan.
In Genesis 1, God calls humanity very good, and in Romans 3, the verdict sounds like an outright contradiction: no one is righteous, no one is good, not even one.
That gap is why people ask why God created beings who end up broken, or why He did not simply hardwire us to be ‘good’ from birth.
The answer is that Adam was good the way the moon is bright. The moon produces no light of its own; it shines only because it faces the sun: really, visibly, and strictly on loan.
Genesis and Romans describe the exact same creature before and after he turned his back on the source. The mistake is hearing "very good" as self-sufficient moral perfection. Genesis is describing relational alignment, a creature lit up simply by the presence it faced.
The serpent offered ownership: you can be like God, deciding good and evil on your own terms. Adam and Eve’s untested innocence met an illusion it had no data to refute, and it fell right there inside the garden. That alone proves the geography of Eden never kept anyone good. What was lost was dependence.
When God sent humanity out, the long experiment began.
For thousands of years we have built empires, written philosophies, and ordered our lives on the belief that we could author our own good. The record is in. Cut off from the source, human self-rule ends in decay, violence, and exhaustion every single time.
In Romans 3, Paul simply lays out the receipts: deceitful tongues, ruined paths, and feet rushing to shed blood. None of it caught God by surprise, and all of it teaches the same lesson, that outside the life of God, human nature cannot sustain good.
This is why no one is born with a circumcised heart. Circumcision requires an incision, and nobody performs surgery on themselves. A man can survey the wreckage of his own independence and realize he is completely helpless, but the knife still belongs to God.
The promise in scripture is God cutting away the stone Himself and giving us a new spirit. A will trapped by sin is freed to choose the One it was made for. The kingdom fills with sons and daughters who signed up because they saw through the lie, and they saw through it because God opened their eyes.
That is why the New Jerusalem is far safer than Eden ever was. In the garden, curiosity stayed alive because humanity had never tasted the bitter fruit of separation. In the final city, there is no serpent and no forbidden tree. We lived outside the gates. We drank the salt water of our own autonomy, and we carry thousands of years of evidence that every alternative to God collapses into ash.
But memory alone is not enough to keep us, just as remembering Egypt's chains didn’t stop Israel from craving its scraps. What secures the redeemed is God finishing what He started in us. We return with the memory of the desert and God's work in our hearts, standing on the only ground that holds.
John saw a city with no need of sun or moon, because the glory of God gives it light and the Lamb is its lamp. Nothing there shines on its own account, and nothing there will ever go dark again.
As we have evolved through the eras of romanticism, and then irony, and now post-irony, and the once-magical spheres of the human heart have been made plain and productized, and nothing is left but the scraping together of gears for advantage, no realm of life has become more horrific than dating.
People have been reduced to lightless zombies who are utterly incapable of love. The interesting thing is they will tell you they want love, and that they're capable of giving it, if only they meet the person who fits the perfect ideal they have in their head, this sort of Platonic solid of lovability who never farts or fucks up or gives them the ick.
That's not love, and anyone who has that conception of love is incapable of giving or receiving it.
The ability to love is the ability to commit to the imperfect. It's a sort of defiance, a refusal to let life not mean something, despite what it is. You have to choose to love someone, not because they're worthy - no one is - but because you can't not love something. Because what a gift it is to rescue someone by giving them the home of your heart. Because only by committing to someone else's flaws do you redeem yourself and make yourself worthy of love, despite all your own flaws. Just fucking because.
The now famous saying, “keep thy mind in Hell and despair not,” is a word given by God to Saint Silouan one night as he struggled intensely with demons.
“Orthodoxy is perfect and leaves no opening for any attack; it has no Achilles’ heel. You are free to attack generic monotheism or polytheism, Pelagianism and Calvinism, Gnosticism, deism and magic, superstition and mythology, even the merits of Papists, purgatory and Caesaropapism, the Inquisition and medievalism, etc., but nothing touches Christian Orthodoxy, the Holy Church built upon the Rock of living faith and supernatural revelation.”

In the first series of Clarkson's Farm, a young woman told Jeremy Clarkson his sheep would never make money, and the wool cheque proved her right before the year was out.
Ellen Helliwell was the shepherd he hired when it became clear he could not manage 78 ewes himself. She lambed them through the night, treated their feet, and told him the arithmetic at the start.
Then came shearing. A gang arrives, charges by the head, and leaves a pile of fleeces. Clarkson sent the wool off and learned what every sheep farmer in Britain already knew. The fleece was worth less than the cost of taking it off the animal.
For 800 years that fleece was the wealth of England. It paid for the cathedrals and the wars. A sheep was kept for five or six years for her wool, and the mutton at the end was a bonus that fed the country.
Now the wool is a disposal problem, so the only thing a sheep can earn from is a lamb sold at five months. One income where there used to be three. Clarkson's flock lost money, and he said so on television.
The reason the fleece is worthless is in your wardrobe. The jumper is acrylic, the fleece jacket is polyester, the carpet is nylon, and all of them are made from oil.
Ellen could do everything a shepherd has had to do since the Bronze Age, and do it at three in the morning. The thing she could not do was compete with a plastics factory.
Check the label in your collar before you ask why British lamb costs what it costs.
I learned that God hates divorce. I understood it intellectually, and it's the testimony of the scripture. And it seems naturally true as a thing to hate.
But I never expected to hate divorce as much as I do. It ain't no mere doctrine. Divorce destroys everything it touches.
Jay Dyer deserves more credit than he gets. The man has read entire libraries and has studied more than most people do in ten lifetimes. I'm sitting here just trying to get through a couple books and it's taking forever.
...prayer for others is very beneficial to the man himself who prays for others; it purifies the heart, strengthens faith and hope in God, and enkindles our love for God and our neighbour.
— Saint John of Kronstadt
He had passed away on Sunday, & his funeral was earlier today, an Orthodox service by the blessing of his metropolitan. Fly high, Seraphim. May we see each other again in the next life.

Poko the European Starling has a syrinx, an organ that lets him control both lungs independently so he can produce a wider pitch range and even two sounds at once. Like other mimics, he repeats phrases he hears often. Poko is loved.
"Не компликуј свој живот – већ је мудро устројен. Веруј у Бога и не бој се. Што је твоје – доћи ће, што није – проћи ће. Живи са миром у срцу, а не са страхом у мислима. И видећеш – све ће се завршити боље него што си могао и замислити."

I have come to realize that the entire issue around raising children, parents vs grandparents, is that people honestly think and truly believe that when their children become adults their duty towards them, and the children they might have, has ended.
Everyone hates having duties now. Conservatives and liberals alike.
But this is untrue. You have duties towards your children that will never end, never. You also have a duty towards your grandchildren no matter how many you might have, and that will never end. You have a duty towards your entire bloodline. And your children alike have a duty towards you, and your grandchildren too.
We are not free floating individuals untethered to anyone and anything. You come into this world owing those around you something, and you come into this world with those around you owing you something.
There is a unspoken unbelievably important social contract that families have. And if you think you owe nobody anything then you are nothing more than a hedonistic coward, and people like you are the reason the west, and all that matters will fall.
