I spent 4 weeks reading the omega-3 research for a guide I'm writing.
For healthy people, the evidence for fish oil supplements is genuinely unclear. Some of the biggest trials found no benefit at all.
A man built a cancer vaccine for his dying dog in 8 weeks. Tumor shrank 75%.
If a pharma company did that for humans, 1 patient, no control group, no safety data, are you taking it?
If I'd failed chemo and had months to live, I'd probably try anything too.
Someone at my counter last week was taking 10,000 IU of vitamin D a day.
No blood test. No reason. Just a TikTok.
That's 10x the standard recommended dose.
That fish oil bottle says 1200mg on the front.
Flip it over. The actual omega-3 inside is often 360mg.
The rest is just fish fat. You're paying for the filler.
"Should I take magnesium for sleep?"
I get this at the pharmacy at least once a week.
My first question back:
"Do you have a consistent bedtime, a dark room, and no screens an hour before bed?"
The answer is almost always no.
Most supplements don't work.
Not because the ingredient is useless.
But because:
- The dose is too low
- The form is poorly absorbed
- The benefit only applies to people who are actually deficient
- The supporting evidence is shaky at best
Fluoride increases the acid resistance of your teeth 10x.
Some sources of fluoride:
- Toothpaste
- Mouthwash
- Tap water
Most get fluoride daily without knowing why.
Now you do.
Every time you eat or drink (except water), bacteria produce acid that melts your teeth.
The fix is easy.
Chew sugar-free gum after eating.
Stimulates saliva to neutralise the acid + re-harden your teeth.
Your dentist will notice.
My GF picked up a "healthy" greens smoothie.
The label said 50% of your daily vegetable intake.
I'm a pharmacist. I read the label.
31 grams of sugar. In a single drink.
Women are recommended under 25 grams of added sugar daily.
One smoothie blew past the entire limit.
Most people with eczema aren't applying enough moisturiser.
I ask every patient: how much, and how often?
"A lot" is always the answer.
Their skin is visibly dry.
Moisturiser is the foundation. Everything else comes after.
Still looks dry? You haven't applied enough.
Chew more gum.
Sugar-free gum after eating or drinking helps protect your teeth by:
- Neutralising acid
- Re-mineralising teeth
- Rinsing away food residues
- Slightly reducing cavity risk
Xylitol gums are best. Canโt be converted into acid & help starve plaque bacteria.
Being busy isnโt the same as moving forward.
I run everything through a simple check:
Direction โ Goal โ Project or Task
If it doesnโt fit, it probably doesnโt deserve my time.
I work long hours and donโt have much spare energy.
I wrote about how I design life to require less time and thinking:
Autopay
Email filters
Standardised meals
Standardised clothing
Bulk ordering essentials
Simple automations at work
1 easy inbox automation to save time, energy, and reduce decision fatigue:
Auto-mark routine emails (receipts, bills, newsletters) as read using filters โ only see whatโs actionable.
Tried LoseIt! & MyFitnessPal for years โ meh. Tried MacroFactor โ IMPRESSED. Its AI logs foods impressively accurately. Iโm a dietician-vetted accurate calorie counter, and this app is insane if you track calories.
