@bethallisonbarr my ex-pastor told me that we just haven’t done complementarianism right yet. so after working in ministry, being a missionary in the SBC, and advocating for women for over 2 decades, i had to leave. i could no longer support a system that oppressed women.
have tickets to the ice cream museum tonight in Austin. not only do you have to be 16 for tickets after 6pm but you also have to sign a waiver…at the ICE CREAM museum. to say i’m intrigued is an understatement.
thanks to Spotify I took a trip down memory lane and listened to 80s Christian Music. As I was singing along, word for word I might add, my husband looked at me and said, “No wonder you’re deconstructing.”
@bethallisonbarr when men bring personal experience into their writing, they’re celebrated for being brave and vulnerable. when women do the same, they “have a chip on their shoulder.”keep being brave. don’t buy into their framework. we need your voice. the body of Christ is anemic without it.
@sheilagregoire@kkdumez @bethallisonbarr One way is engage counselor educators with your work. We love data and research! I do hope you publish in academic journals for that very reason. I present your research in my classes with Masters students preparing for practice. Getting it to the next generation is the key.
@ioannaxaris7 @bethallisonbarr I agree! My research is in this area—deconstructing/reconstructing faith beliefs within the context of counseling. I’ve had conference proposals to conservative christian conferences rejected because of my use of these terms.
@kkdumez @bethallisonbarr @sheilagregoire I have done exactly that! I think what is helpful to many of my clients is that all of you are speaking from within the clan. They come to your work with less skepticism and find that your words really resonate.
I sent my recently graduated, 18 year old to the store that is literally one mile away for one single item. He’s been gone 30 minutes. I fear he will not be able to survive in the wild.
Going to therapy is important, and brave, but I think that those are us who get to hold their stories and be with others in moments of pain and victory and the lucky ones, rich for being trusted with so much sacredness.
