This is a significant day for me — the anniversary of the first time I was raped.
In the past this date has been difficult: a time when the trauma felt especially heavy. But today I am choosing to honor my fierce younger self with particular tenderness and respect.

Survivors. I’m so sorry for the lack of empathy, compassion & care. I’m so sorry for the backwards blaming & shaming & silencing. I’m so sorry that this world hasn’t yet come to terms with the long term, devastating effects of sexual violence. We deserve better. So much better.
