This is the little girl I met at Mowlem Police Station after she went there to report that she had been sexually abused several times. Her heartbreaking experience was so painful that I had to suspend everything I was doing and join the officers in searching for the culprit. I also wanted to highlight her case to send a strong warning to anyone abusing innocent children who have nobody to protect or defend them.

Some people may think this is just another ordinary case, but it is heartbreaking to learn that this child has allegedly suffered repeated sexual abuse, which doctors have also confirmed. What makes the situation even more painful is that her mother is absent, leaving her without the protection and care every child deserves.

How can we, as a society, sleep peacefully when innocent children are suffering in silence?Every child deserves to feel safe, loved, and protected. No child should have to endure such pain, especially at the hands of people who should know better.

To all parents, please do not abandon your children, especially in informal settlements, where vulnerable children may face additional risks. Your presence, guidance, and protection matter more than you may ever realise. A child may not always know how to ask for help, but that does not mean they are not suffering.

I will continue standing up for children who have nobody to speak for them. Their pain must never be ignored, and those who prey on their innocence must be held accountable through the law.
