@Louisianafotos@iCyclone Pressure on Guam got down to about 970 with the center about 50 miles away. Assuming an RMW of about 20 miles that would support a central pressure below 910 mbar
@iCyclone Looks like they had an honest to god landfall on Rota. I knew they’d got a direct hit, didn’t think they’d get the exact (or near exact) c enter
@iCyclone It’s wide enough now that it’ll have to really thread the needle to avoid bringing the eyewall to any of the islands, probably somewhere is gonna get it at this point.
@edgarrmcgregor@iCyclone Also the station on Grand Isle, which was the in the core, failed after a gust of around 150 mph and a USGS station outside the RMW recorded sustained winds of 116 mph. (Sorry for all this stuff I like this topic, wind observations)
@edgarrmcgregor@iCyclone Without commenting on the overall point I just want to say that those stations were outside the core of eyewall, only reason the gusts are as high as they are is that they’re elevated stations (38m and 20m).
@iCyclone That 131 mph gust is way higher than any gust from a tropical cyclone in South Dakota so looks like the twisty things win (this is a joke I hope nobody would seriously try that comparison)
