Teachers, want to take something off your plate? Put HW in the trash, especially for elementary grades. Let students go home to run, play, and enjoy being a child. And read a little after playing. Then they come to school recharged instead of stressed out and you will too!
Pardon my redundancy but-
We can’t keep demanding teachers are trained in everything, are skilled in everything, can skillfully meet 30 different little human’s needs… not pay them accordingly and then wonder why there is a teacher shortage
We've always had SEL in schools. It was called recess, unstructured play, Music, Arts, Physical Education, Etc. But they've been removed or reduced to spend more time on testing, & then we wonder why students lack social/emotional skills to self regulate, focus, & reduce stress.
Teachers never take for granted a principal who is supportive, encouraging, and appreciative because they are like a guiding light in the storm. And always let them know they're appreciated too.
Education is not data or curriculum driven and not even student driven. Education is relationship driven. Teachers thrive w/ positive admin relationships & students thrive w/ positive teacher relationships. Relationships drive education.
Over 90% of Finnish teachers remain in education for the entirety of career. We have an attrition rate of nearly 50% every 5 years. They pay a fair salary, don't have a formal teacher evaluation, value teacher input, & don't overload their plates focusing on standardized tests
Media Specialist @awschwartz1 works tirelessly to inspire students and teachers! Collaborating with her is one of my greatest privileges of teaching @RivertonElem@RivertonLMC
@support_a_teach Parents in our system must grant permission for their students to have their pictures posted. I’m guessing this is true for most schools.
We spend 50% more hours in school than Finland. They get 15 mins of recess every hour. They have NO standardized tests except for PISA in HS & they outperform us every time. The irony is that they created their system based on US schools and US university research in the 1970's.
