I have huge respect for Rodri and everything he has achieved in football. He's an incredible player and one of the best midfielders in the world. But for me, Lionel Messi deserved to be named the best player of the tournament.

Look at what Messi did throughout the World Cup. It wasn't just the goals it was the moments when Argentina needed someone to stand up. Against Cape Verde, Egypt and England, he made the difference when the pressure was at its highest. He carried the team through the toughest moments and inspired everyone around him.

People can have their opinions, and that's football. But when you watch the tournament from start to finish, it's very clear who had the biggest influence. Messi wasn't just scoring he was creating, leading, inspiring and bringing Argentina back into games when everything looked lost.

For me, that's what the Golden Ball is about. It's not only about statistics; it's about who left the biggest mark on the tournament. And in my eyes, nobody did that more than Lionel Messi.
