#TheTomorrowWar#spoilers Y’all, they really were like “ok you can have another alien war movie but you’re gonna have to learn something about global climate change while you’re at it.” #science
Since it’s official….I am leaving academics. Starting Wednesday I will be teaching full time with Knower Academics! This has been a hard decision but I know this is the best move for me. #phdchat#teacher
Writing workshop in Maine with some members of the @UNHWaterQuality lab! I’m working on cranking through an exciting paper about the effect of Hurricane Maria on the @luqczo for my dissertation. Who couldn’t be inspired to write about water with this view?
@stu_turton And I got to chatting with the book store woman and she’s gonna buy it too!!! Hey @stu_turton can you say “favorite author”? Because you’re mine!!!
That moment when your glasses are fogging up but you’re trying to make a point so you take them off and blindly stare down your students to tell them to never erase in their field books. #studentteacher#fieldwork#phdchat#igotintheirheads
We need to normalize just how good PhD students are.
You already have a bachelors (maybe a masters). You’re highly qualified, and now you’re doing something that very few people IN THE WORLD can do. You’re literally one of the best in the world in your field.
Think about that.
Hey @UofNH How am I supposed to see my results if I keep getting an error message that there are "too many people logged into the system"? #COVID19 Anyone else having this problem?
@TheRitaPhD @NikkiAnneWilson@AcademicChatter I criticize papers so much for tables. I’m notorious for saying “should have been a graph” during paper discussions lol. I agree tho! Keep it simple and easy to understand
@NikkiAnneWilson@AcademicChatter I use R for two reasons: excel can’t handle all my data and coding is 1000X faster because I can code one graph and use it for all of them. I 100% agree tho that sometimes R graphs can be quite out there
@purlsandpearls Oh Emma I totally empathize. I had to have the conversation with my advisor at the beginning of the pandemic like “hey I’m not coping well and I’m going to need you to be ok with that because I’m having near daily panic attacks.”
@SheenaCHayes1@AcademicChatter The seven and a half deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by @stu_turton is hands down my favorite book of 2019. I can’t recommend it enough!!!
@UNHPrez can you clarify when masks should be worn? Everything I’ve been told in NREN is that masks have to be worn always and shields aren’t enough protection.
Hey @UNH_GradSchool@UNHStudents a friend in Paul College told me her professor this morning told the class they could take their masks off because they were inside. Also I’ve been hearing reports of profs wearing face shield but no mask.
@EKing_Sci@AcademicChatter One of the most important things I learned (from working with resident life and student housing) is to open the conversation and ask “what do you need from me as a mentor?” Open communication is so important and can go so far in helping you walk that line.
