2022 IE – NZ Research Call funded project from @agriculture_ie and @MPI_NZ focused on developing high throughput predictors for methane output from ruminants!
Exciting PhD on the Methane-Predict project in @TeagascSheep aiming to estimate methane output from sheep as well as investigating the opportunity of genomics (genetic and rumen microbiome) to lower methane output! @agriculture_ie@MPI_NZ@FiMcG11@DeirdrePurfield@teagasc
🚨🚨The closing date for the below role has been extended until this coming Friday (12th Jan). If you are interested in working on the rumen microbiome and methane emissions, we want to hear from you!🚨🚨

All steam ahead in @TeagascSheep in preparation for rumen sampling 500 lambs to study the relationship of the rumen 🦠s and methane output!! @tubber_belclare@FiMcG11
Sampling preparations are underway for the latest @MethanePredict rumen sampling run. 500 lambs will have their methane measured and rumen samples collected to identify 🦠 s associated with high & low methane output at grass! @TeagascSheep @FiMcG11@PaulSmid94
Another 80 suckler cows rumen sampled and added to the @methanepredict project. Samples of rumen 🦠s will be used as part of studies aiming to identify ⬆️&⬇️ CH4 emitting animals for breeding. @teagasc@AgResearchNEWS@agriculture_ie@MPI_NZ
3yr Postdoc position working on the @MethanePredict project. Excellent opportunity to work on this @agriculture_ie and @MPI_NZ funded collaborative project with @AgResearchNEWS@HerdPlus focused on the rumen microbiome and CH4 emissions. Animal, lab and bioinformatics role (3/5)
Sampling preparations underway for the latest @MethanePredict rumen sampling run. 80 sucklers, having their methane emissions estimated, will be sampled to try identify rumen 🦠s associated with high and low methane output at grass! @teagasc@byrnecolinj
Another busy day on the Methane-Predict project in @teagasc . 48 bullocks, undergoing methane measurements, rumen sampled. These samples, along with others collected in Ireland and @AgResearchNEWS, will be used to validate the rumen microbiome as a proxy for methane emissions!
A busy week for the Methane-Predict team in @teagasc with 300 ewes ad 40 dairy cows undergoing methane measurements and rumen sampling in @TeagascSheep and Moorepark. These rumen microbial, along with milk and meat samples, will be investigated as potential indicators/proxies
Methane-Predict is a 4 yr @agriculture_ie and @MPI_NZ funded project lead by @teagasc and @AgResearchNEWS aiming to develop high throughput predictors for large capacity screening of methane emitting ruminant livestock at an individual and system level #NZIREAgriPartnership
