🎨: Maria Richards Oakey Dewing (American, 1845–1927), "Poppies and Italian Mignonette" (1891)
Maria Richards Oakey Dewing believed that any artist attempting to paint from nature should first serve “a long apprenticeship in the garden.”
Just as we see here, she grew poppies and sweetly fragrant mignonette, both hardy species, together in a large bed 🌺
