The Madam called Somalis in the South ‘terrorists’ but conveniently left out who created, founded, and directed Al Shabaab.

Godane, Keyse, and Ibrahim Afghan, all from Somaliland, aren’t just a few men – they are the founders and leaders of one of the deadliest terror groups in the world, responsible for the deaths of thousands in cities like Mogadishu, Nairobi, Kampala, Djibouti, Galkacyo, Kismayo, Garissa, Bosaso, and more.

Over the past 15 years, Somaliland’s cities, of course, were not among the victims of Al Shabaab’s scorched earth tactics — lucky them.

You’ll also remember that some Somaliland elders even claimed that Al Shabaab is run by their people (see video).

Some want to blame Southerners for the 1980s military atrocities in Somaliland – over 40 years ago, when most of these Southerners weren’t even born or were minors.

Meanwhile, over 90% of Somaliland’s former and current leaders, including all your presidents, opposition leaders, and even the loudest Landers, worked for Siyad Barre, while none of today’s Southern political leaders did.

The reason is simple: you are led by octogenarians who were Barre’s peers and protégés, while we are led by Generation X and Millennials.

If you want to absolve the community from which Al Shabaab’s founders hail for the crimes of those terrorists, I’m fine with that. No soul is responsible for the actions of others. But extend the same fairness to us Southerners, and don’t blame us for what Siyad Barre, whom your leaders worked for, did.

Likewise, if Madam Edna talks about terrorism, she shouldn’t blame the victims— Southern Somalis — while her nephew Ahmed Godane created the Al Shabaab menace, and her elders once spoke proudly of it (though they later apologized).

The time for self-righteousness is over.

We are in an era of facts.

I know the truth hurts, but it eventually heals.
