imo Mk9 dabbled a bit in story mode by making him a foil for JC as another showoff but when MKX put him out of commission as a revenant, him and Liu Kang got some heavy lifting via their game intro interactions. 11 was the icing on the cake by making him the comic relief.

@ExcaIiburrito My hot take is that they could have leaned into his Mama's Boy ™️ energy a little more and put more of it on his design (e.g. Dying his hair the same color as his Mom rather than just kissing her pic in recall.)

@ouiouicwoissan I think the Tonfas were there for the Goro fight specifically and they couldn't bring themselves to remove them by then. Plus it sort of made him more unique since apart from Tanya in X, no one else in the franchise had been using them in a way that made sense.
