🇩🇪 Today's German idiom is "Wo sich Fuchs und Hase gute Nacht sagen" 🦊🐇
Literally translated, this means "where the fox and the hare say goodnight to each other." Isn't that cute? But hold on - it's not quite as cozy as it sounds.
This phrase is used to describe a place that is very remote or in the middle of nowhere.
It's akin to the English saying, "in the sticks" or "in the boondocks." Imagine a place so far out, even the animals bid each other goodnight because they don't expect to see any humans around! 🌲🏞️
Here are some examples:
1️⃣ Mein Großvater wohnt da, wo sich Fuchs und Hase gute Nacht sagen. (My grandfather lives where the fox and the hare say goodnight.)
2️⃣ Wir haben uns total verfahren und waren plötzlich da, wo sich Fuchs und Hase gute Nacht sagen. (We got completely lost and suddenly we were where the fox and hare say goodnight.)
3️⃣ Ich mag es, dort zu sein, wo sich Fuchs und Hase gute Nacht sagen. (I like being where the fox and the hare say goodnight.)
Next time you're out in nature, remember this phrase. Who knows, you might just spot a fox and hare bidding each other gute Nacht! 😄🌛🌠
