Honestly, I think the DM issue goes deeper than friend requests.

For context, I was in the top 0.1% of players by DuoQ wins in 2025.

After the Split 1 DuoQ changes, DuoQ stopped feeling worth it for me. I understand why Riot made those changes after Apex DuoQ was abused, but an unintended consequence is that I no longer have much reason to add people after Ranked games.

When DuoQ was a meaningful way to climb, adding someone often meant “let’s queue again tomorrow.”

Now I mostly add people just to follow their climb.

That makes me wonder if part of League feeling less social isn’t about chat tools at all. It might be that Ranked, League’s main mode, gives players fewer incentives to build lasting connections than it used to.

If that’s happening beyond just my experience, monitoring DMs alone probably won’t make Ranked feel more social.

One of the worst changes I've seen in my entire League career. This single-handedly removes a huge amount of skill expression in higher elo. If the goal is to help new players, keep it limited to Gold and below instead of dumbing down the game for everyone. 🫰
