@TreyWallace@cspan It’s a horrible bill that traps schools like Miami and FSU to the lower tier ACC. You’d think there would be more pressing matters for the Senate.
@PeteThamel Btw this is the bio of the judge who used the TRO against Mensah. Mike O’Foghludha has lived in Durham for over 40 years. He graduated from Duke University with a degree in history
@sitnuok@mckenzielaw He is not under a contract because he is not a Duke employee. Duke has a contract that allows it to own Mensah’s name image and likeness for 2 years and prevents him from leaving. He did sign it. I’m just surprised Duke is ok with having a student sign such a contract
@sitnuok@mckenzielaw I agree and Duke is defending its rights However Darian Mensah is a student and not a Duke employee so Duke is saying our contractual rights are more important than allowing one of its students to leave the school. That is a big statement from an elite school like Duke.
@mckenzielaw I was crushed when Mensah left but as a student he has the right to transfer as any other at Tulane. Of course he can earn NIL money at Duke as a player which I have no issue wi. However he is a student and not an employee so I find Duke blocking his departure as a step too far.
@mckenzielaw Not sure how an elite academic institution such as Duke is happy about preventing a student, not employee, from enrolling at another institution. Duke won but not sure I’d be so proud about it. They are basically asserting this contract allows them to own this young man.
@FletcherNSmith@PeteThamel Duke must be so proud. They have enforced a contract a student signed and prevented said student from enrolling at another institution. It’s good to see university missions have not been compromised with all the focus on athletics.
@slmandel Not sure how an elite academic institution such as Duke is happy about preventing a student, not employee, from enrolling at another institution. Duke was granted a TRO, but they are basically asserting this contract allows them to own this young man.
#GoCanes! My daughter’s school got some sweet revenge for this proud #RollWave alum. Love to see a private school take the title, but will be a tough game no matter who they play, but so proud of the Canes!
