Acabo de pasar 3 semanas en Venezuela, filmando una de las historias más alucinantes que he tenido el privilegio de contar.

Estuve no solo en Caracas sino en el interior, compartiendo con gente de todo tipo, incluso dentro de una cárcel que tuve la oportunidad de visitar.

No había estado en mi país desde hace 16 años.

A pesar de las dificultades y la evidente destrucción que dejó la revolución fuera de la burbuja caraqueña, por primera vez en dos décadas estoy optimista. No baso mi optimismo en la ilusión de que Washington nos terminará de salvar, lo baso en que encontré un pueblo completamente curado de esa horrible enfermedad social que fue el chavismo.

Vienen tiempos complicados que requerirán de la colaboración de todos. Pienso poner mi grano de arena. El país libre que soñamos no nos lo van a regalar. Hay que exigirlo. Transformarlo con trabajo y con respeto a quienes se quedaron aguantando la debacle.

Pronto tendré muchas cosas que compartir sobre lo que filmé y lo que viví. Ahora solo les digo que nunca, en ningún lugar del mundo, he recibido tanto cariño. Es un país demasiado arrecho. Hay que protegerlo, aprovechar esta oportunidad histórica para recuperarlo y que no nos lo vuelvan a quitar.

One of my favorite Dolly stories is one Julia Roberts told about being on the set of Steel Magnolias. It was, naturally, very hot and humid, and Julia turned to Dolly and said, "Aren't you hot? With the wig and everything? Just, you know, just say it's hot!"
