#JAYB speaks candidly about #GOT7’s “Stop Stop It” going viral again: There was a reason it didn’t work back then

JAY B looked back on GOT7’s “Stop Stop It,” which was released 12 years ago. The song has recently been enjoying a resurgence after its challenge started trending across various online communities.

“It only does well when we’re promoting it. It didn’t do well back then.” He then laughed and added, “But there was a reason it didn’t work back then. The outfits… they were overalls, and the fit was a little…”

Having previously been under JYPE, he also mentioned KickFlip, who are currently very active.

“Our promotional periods overlapped with KickFlip’s just one or two years ago. We exchanged signed CDs with them. I was curious about what they had written, so I checked, and they had written, ‘We’re grateful that we’re able to promote like this thanks to our seniors.’ I felt proud. It made me realize that there are people who recognize what we’ve done.”

JAY B also shared his honest thoughts about GOT7’s full-group activities and the team’s future. This coming November, he is set to perform at a festival in Thailand alongside members Mark and BamBam.

“It wasn’t something we planned separately; the three of us naturally ended up coming together. There are other members who would like to join us, too, but everyone is busy with their individual activities.”

As GOT7’s leader, JAY B has been at the forefront in planning and organizing the group’s full-member album projects.

“For albums we worked on with Warner Music before, I planned them myself, met with people, and made it happen. Now everyone is so busy that I have practical concerns, like wondering, ‘Will I still be able to take the lead going forward?’ I can bring it up with the members, but I’m also worried about whether it would realistically be possible.”

Nevertheless, he left the possibility open regarding GOT7’s next step, saying, “We’re still talking about it regularly. I think we should gradually start preparing now.”

Despite his busy individual schedule and the practical limitations, JAY B had a clear reason for wanting to firmly protect GOT7, his “roots.”

“I can’t speak for the other guys, but I think I want to hold on to it because it’s where I started. Rather than making a grand statement about ‘remembering our original intentions,’ in a way, it might just be lingering attachment. It would be such a waste to let go of this team completely after all the time we’ve spent together. And I still have high hopes that we’ll be able to do many more things as GOT7 in the future.”

앞서 제이비는 SNS 라이브 방송 도중 부적절한 사진이 노출된 사건과 여성들에게 보낸 다이렉트 메시지(DM)가 공개되는 등 여러 차례 구설에 오른 바 있다. 갓세븐 그룹 활동에 누구보다 진심인 모습과 달리 사적 영역에서 불거진 논란으로 팬들에게 실망을 안겼다는 지적도 뒤따랐다.

그는 "돌이켜보니 예전에는 책임감이 없었다기보다는 참 안일했다. 사실 길거리를 다닐 때도 스스로를 연예인이라고 생각하지 않고 살았다"며 "잘못이라고 치부할 수는 없겠지만, 나 자신에 대한 책임감을 조금 더 생각했어야 한다는 생각이 들었다"고 털어놨다.
