🆕Michigan Alliance for Families has created a new document to inform families whose children experience or may be at risk of experiencing seclusion and/or restraint.
Michigan law prohibits the use of seclusion and restraint in public schools, except in narrow circumstances.
Seclusion and restraint are disproportionately used on students with disabilities and may lead to a denial of FAPE. The document goes over Michigan policy, definitions of emergency seclusion and restraint (including what it is and isn’t), proactive strategies.
