A #Facebook advertisement is circulating an AI-generated video that falsely shows Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman endorsing an investment platform, claiming returns of up to ₹1 lakh per day and ₹30 lakh per month on an investment of ₹22,000.

Q&A

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas had already issued a detailed clarification on the Ethanol Blended Petrol Programme through a press release on 23rd June, 2026, addressing the misinformation and providing factual clarifications. Automobile manufacturers also issued clarifications regarding the programme during a press conference held on 4th July, 2026.

Despite these clarifications, certain concerns have continued to be raised regarding the Ethanol Blended Petrol Programme. The following Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) provide factual and evidence-based responses to these concerns.

Q1: Why did India appear to rush its ethanol blending targets when countries like Brazil took decades?

✴️The first point that must be understood is that ethanol is not a new fuel. We did not invent ethanol. More than a century ago, Henry Ford designed the Model T to run on ethanol, and countries across the world, including Brazil and the United States, have used ethanol blends for decades.

✴️Equally important, India's ethanol blending programme did not begin under the present government. The initiative has a long institutional history and milestones (all are available in public domain – some are placed at Annexure-1)

✴️A pilot ethanol blending programme was launched in 2001, formally announced in 2004, and E5 (5% ethanol blending) was rolled out across several States by 2006.

✴️The policy framework was subsequently notified in the Gazette of India in January 2013 during the UPA government. These are matters of public record.

BRICS Women Ministerial Meeting concluded today in Kochi

🔰The landmark outcome of this year's Women Ministerial Meeting was the adoption of the first-ever Joint Statement in the Women Track, reflecting the shared commitment of BRICS Member Countries to strengthen cooperation in promoting women-led development in all spheres.

🔰The Meetings also welcomed two initiatives proposed by India to strengthen long-term collaboration under the BRICS Women Track:

➡️The BRICS Digital Repository of Best Practices will serve as a shared platform for documenting and exchanging successful policies, programmes and innovations on women's empowerment across BRICS Member Countries.
