As a longtime EV hater, I’m coming clean: I got a Tesla Model Y Performance a few months ago.

FSD is just too good, it’s faster than a Lambo, and it costs $40/month vs the $500 I was paying in gas. Too amazing to pass up.

Haven’t ditched the V8 F-150. Still value the 600+ miles of range and the towing. But commuting in it every day was getting ridiculous.

I can’t see myself ever going 100% EV, at least not yet.

But I always said if Tesla ever made an EV that was a better product for my daily use case, I’d buy one.

With FSD they finally have. Commute and around-town driving are amazing in this thing and it’s not even close.

Morgan Stanley just laid out how massive the Tesla Semi autonomy opportunity is going to become

Morgan Stanley estimates:

• ~$12K–$18K/month in autonomy software revenue per Semi
• ~$0.85–$1 per autonomous mile
• ~18,000 miles driven per month
• ~82,000 autonomous Semis by 2040
• ~$17 BILLION in annual software revenue by 2040
• ~$7.5 BILLION in incremental EBIT by 2040

And 82,000 Semis by 2040 is only ~13.5% of the autonomous trucking market

Tesla has previously outlined production capacity of up to 50,000 Semis per year, so Morgan Stanley considers 82,000 deployed by 2040 a conservative starting point

But Morgan Stanley makes an important point:

If Tesla puts an autonomous Semi on the road and it works well, the market will care far more about the result than the sensor stack behind it

Tesla Semi has the potential to become a high-utilization autonomous machine generating recurring software revenue for every mile it drives

That completely changes the economics of trucking
