This is what true loyalty, friendship and character looks like. Instead of Saban worrying about his own reputation and the public fallout from the letter, he immediately stepped up for his friend. Everyone wants to ride in the limousine with you, very few will ever ride with you on the bus.

Terrion Arnold's college coach, Nick Saban, sent a letter to the judge who presided over the pre-trial detention hearing vouching for Arnold's character. https://t.co/nqOht6RxED
Disgusting but the only thing shocking to me is that it didn’t happen sooner. Welcome to modern politics. And if you think it’s going to get better, more civilized and less divided, you’re kidding yourself. We have crossed the rubicon.
At some point you need to ask yourself if it’s really worth it to put your family through this.
Josh Smith spent five years behind bars, turned his life around. Now he is trying to deliver on Trump’s criminal-justice reforms, reports P.G. Sittenfeld. https://t.co/SifKSpnhi3
While I was doing time with Sam Bankman-Fried at FCI Terminal Island, one moment told me exactly who he is:
Sam and I are walking the track when another prisoner, “Sal,” comes up to close a deal — Sam was trying to buy something, nothing shady, just commissary type stuff. Sal asks if Sam can have “his people” CashApp the money, a common way many people do business inside.
Sam’s answer: “No. My parents don’t like dealing with convicts.” Sal walked off. I turned to Sam: “You do know you’re a fucking convict too, right?”
That was the moment I understood him. In his mind, he was never actually one of us. The rules, the labels, the consequences — those were for us little people.
Case in point - contrast SBF with Larry Page and Sergey Brin of Google. They had the foresight and self awareness early on to bring on board Eric Schmidt - a consummate professional and brilliant tactician/strategist. Under his leadership, the company exploded in growth and became the behemoth it is today. And nobody went to jail.
Sam Bankman-Fried and I were prison bunkmates and I know him well. So I read this with more context than most.
Sam and I argued more than once about the same thing: his refusal to accept ANY responsibility for what he did. Not once did he admit he’d done anything wrong — even after I told him repeatedly he could never begin to redeem himself without that acknowledgment.
You don’t earn a pardon when you can’t admit, even to yourself, that you did wrong.
Sam is also incredibly gifted when it comes to technology. A true visionary. But he had ZERO business serving as the CEO of a multimillion dollar company.
It’s not about what you know. It’s about what you don’t know and being willing to be honest with yourself and check your ego. Truly brilliant entrepreneurs recognize what they don’t know and surround themselves with people that do. Had Sam hired an actual adult in the room and let him/her cook, he would be free today and worth close to $100 Billion.
Today shows how important it is to always take a moment to tell those around you how much you love them. Because fate does not send an RSVP. Godspeed @KyleBusch
