Bitcoin & Bud Light

I own a bar. I can tell you that Bud Light will never recover from alienating their customer base. I know thousands of people who used to order Bud Light that will never again. I don’t know of any new Bud Light drinkers.

In my opinion, the same thing is underway with Bitcoin Core. Regardless of how the soft fork turns out, it’s clear to me that they have alienated a very large percentage of their customer base that will never return. Whether soft fork or hard fork - they’re gone.

To claim that the spammers are part of the customer base is like claiming that the super woke were part of Bud Light’s customer base. Sure maybe, but it’s a small minority that might currently be more vocal than others, but they’re not your rock. They’re not dying on any hills for you. They’ll be gone the moment they can find a better scam.

Same with appealing to VCs.

A mistake often made by middle management is the idea that being friends with the other managers is more important than the support system you’ve built in the employees under you.

It’s the army captain who believes it doesn’t matter if his soldiers hate him so long as he’s friends with the commanding general.

It’s the husband who leaves his marriage for another woman and doesn’t realize the emotional stability he was getting from his family.

This doesn’t last long.

What will happen.

The decision to engage in woke propaganda at Bud Light was made 1) because it aligned with the politics of management and 2) to move away from the frat boy image.

The outcome was the frats indeed moved away from them in droves, followed by the non-frat blue collar men. Their entire support system left. And the woke, who didn’t drink beer anyway, never came.

In the long run, it doesn’t matter that other devs, spammers, and VCs like the direction that Core is going in. I’ll admit that shit show can be propped up for longer than you think, just like it did with ethereum. But the eventual outcome is clear.

You can’t survive long term without your primary customer base as your support system.

Why it’s likely already over.

Next Saturday one of two things will happen. Either we will see a last second large fraction of miners defecting from core, or we will see the soft fork transition into a hard fork that will take away the plebs.

There’s no question to me that the majority of the non-technical, but ride-or-die plebs are on the side of knots in this debate.

Those people are never going back to Core. Either Core comes to them or they move on.

Either way, the support system is gone.

Caveat:

The one outcome that I can see working for Core is that they beat the bip-110 soft fork, and then immediately move in the direction that Knots was moving in.

Specifically- priority one for Core after defeating bip-110, must absolutely be to admitting the mistakes of taproot and providing a plan to fix them.

If instead Core starts pushing in the other direction - like CTV and simplicity - that support system is done, and imo, so is Core eventually.

Of course I could be wrong. I don’t know the mind of the machine in the basement. But that’s how I see this playing out.

BIP-110 is not delayed. It is happening on schedule with around 20% nodes ready to enforce these rules.

Coldcard bug in simple english. Code had a safety check to confirm the real randomness chip was in use. But the check only asked "does this setting exist?" But not "is it turned on?" It was off. So the wallet made keys from fake randomness, and fake randomness can be guessed.

Witnesses described a second strike hitting the exact spot where a teacher had moved surviving students for shelter, killing nearly everyone who had taken cover there. A third strike followed on the same site. Death tolls range from 156 to over 170, most of them girls aged seven to twelve. The school had been walled off from the adjacent IRGC naval base since at least 2015, had its own website, and was geolocatable through open-source materials any analyst could have pulled in minutes.

Built to fail:

The Pentagon's own machinery for preventing exactly this outcome had already been dismantled. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth slashed the Civilian Protection Center of Excellence workforce by roughly 90 percent and cut CENTCOM's civilian casualty assessment team from ten people to one, months before the war started. A May Pentagon Inspector General report found the office had become a shell on paper with no budget, no mandate, no real mission. A functioning warning system was defunded on purpose, then blamed for not warning anyone.

Accountability buried:

My take: A military that surveilled a schoolyard for four decades didn't fail to see the children, it decided in advance that seeing them wouldn't change the targeting. Nobody in this chain lacked information.

On a serious note - once again, if you're writing low effort, AI generated nonsense that will convince exactly zero people to not run BIP110 then your motivation is something else. I would guess that it's in-group signalling - essentially this is some requirement for maintaining good favor with a certain group within the Bitcoin space.

It's clearly a chore, not a passion is my point.
