Building FirstWave in Public
FirstWave is the fastest way for indie devs to create a waitlist for their apps ๐ฒ
Let me introduce myself ๐๐พ
Iโm Michael, an iOS dev from London ๐ฌ๐ง
Iโm currently building a Kanban-style task manager for mobile. Replacing the traditional drag-and-drop with a natural feel of swiping
(Left: My app - right: Trello)
Building in public โ follow for progress! โก๏ธ
Day 16 of building Preflight.
Today i took a pause on coding & decided to spend the day trying to perfect my messaging.
My value proposition.
My ideal client profile.
My strategic narrative.
Building the product is easy, nailing your messaging can determine your apps success
Day 12 of building in public.
Today I learnt a lesson.. never get attached to a name. I went to purchase the FirstWave domain and found that the main one was already taken by a popular cloud service provider.
So decided to rename FirstWave has now been renamed to PreFlight!
If youโre creating a new app thatโs concept already exists, your MVP is not validating the app idea (as your competitors have already validated this for you). What youโre actually validating is your distribution method.
It makes so much sense but I never thought of it that way๏ฟผ
Sometimes simple really is betterโฆ
Updated the logo for FirstWave (new left โ old right)
Stopped trying to think outside the box and it looks so much cleaner. I think it fits better on the landing page ๐
Day 6 of building FirstWave.
Getting prepared for public beta release in the coming days, so getting the landing page ready. Itโs starting to come together ๐ฎโ๐จ
Features ๐
โข Send beta invites to your waitlist
โข Segment users (signup date, %, etc)
โข Post build updates to keep supporters engaged
โข Public waitlist page to share anywhere
โข Track early supporters in one place
โข Send launch announcements
Something Iโve realised building apps:
A big waitlist doesnโt mean much if nobody remembers signing up.
What actually matters is engagement before launch.
Updates.
Progress.
Feeling part of the journey.
Thatโs something Iโm thinking a lot about while building FirstWave.

Day 4 building FirstWave, The waitlist tool designed for developers.
Todayโs focus: Help devs to maintain engagement with subscribers while they build.
Users can post updates on their waitlist about the progress of their app, so subscribers can easily keep up to date
Iโve got the core concept of FirstWave working!
From signup to live waitlist in seconds!
32 seconds to be precise ๐
No landing page needed โ
No email marketing tools โ
The vision of it being the fastest way to create a waitlist for your app is actually looking reachable
Day 8 of building Glide Kanban in public -
Now that the beta is live Iโve been getting some valuable feedback. Got some bugs I need to squash ๐
One of my beta testers wanted to link to their reminders. Looks like Iโll be adding that feature next โ
@adamlyttleapps just watched your latest video and saw youโre using Apple notes to track your tasks.
Would love for you to try out the app Iโm building just for this and hear your thoughts ๐๐พ
Itโs a simple project management app built for the iPhone (thought Iโd shot my shot)
The Glide Kanban Beta is now live!! ๐ฒ
Just sent out the first batch of beta invites to everyone that signed up! ๐ง
If you didnโt & want to try out the app and provide feedback then Iโll be sending out the next batch soon, you can sign up below ๐๐พ
