DYSON: “I didn’t go there in viciousness. The Bible calls on us to call out wickedness in high places.”
@MichaelEDyson & @Justinjpearson talk to @rolandsmartin about Dyson’s prayer in the TN House calling out white Christian nationalism. (Most Republicans walked out)
🔥🔥WATCH — @MichaelEDyson leads prayer: “🌎 is on fire with bigotry & bombs… Hatred of Blackness circulates in the lungs of the beast of white Christian nationalism… We’re victims of a tyrant whose malignant narcissism seduces too many to mimic his deadly deceitfulness…”
He was invited by @Justinjpearson. He did not hold back. Republicans started streaming out about halfway through.
My take on my dear friend, leader and brother, as a great light goes out and a historic tongue is silenced. But his voice resonates still! RIP Rev. Jackson!

Speaking at Doha Forum’s Viewpoint, Rev. Dr. Michael Eric Dyson Distinguished Professor of Ethics and Society, Vanderbilt University, reflected on the damaging impact of concentrated political power on cultural discourse. He critically examined the extent to which existing political structures truly represent the American public yet expressed enduring hope that core American values of freedom, justice, and equality continue to resonate widely.

So a right-wing autocrat can praise the Democratic Socialist mayor of New York, while feckless and spineless Democrats condemn him? Make it make sense.
This is a horrendous assault on academic freedom, freedom of speech, and the freedom to conduct one’s class according to one’s position as a professor. This may well have a chilling effect on higher education. We must combat this autocratic impulse to constrain our ability to explore the very forces that oppressed minoritized and other vulnerable communities to begin with. It seems acceptable to subject millions to egregious injustice but not to expose and oppose it.

On October 15, The Hip Hop Museum will honor Dr. Michael Eric Dyson with the Hip Hop Scholar Award at our Gala at Cipriani Wall Street. Through profound insights into Hip Hop culture, he connects its poetic roots to social justice, truth, and resilience—bridging academia and the
“We’ve heard so many warnings in recent months about the rise of fascism in American culture, but do you remember the provocative words of Toni Morrison on the subject from three decades ago? They spark a different kind of reflection and resistance today.” https://t.co/nm0cDgUpWD
CNN's Laura Coates thinks Trump's Truth Social posts about museums are about eliminating "the history of slavery" and has Michael Eric Dyson elaborate "Fascists are interested in deploying museums as extensions of propaganda. Remember, in Italy, under Mussolini, that's how the museum was projected to further the notion of Romantica, the Romanness... what's happening now is that a president extends that fascist impulse to use the museum as a footstool for his personally chosen artifacts of history as opposed to the independent rigorous assessment of what we have in this nation."
Black Genius, part 1 “The GOAT”
In Spike Lee‘s “Highest2Lowest” Denzel Washington shows again why he is the greatest actor of the 21st Century— and one of the greatest artists of all time. His transcendent aptitude shines through each scene as he probes the depths of a nuanced, complicated Black masculinity that is finally and toughly compassionate. His acting instincts are by now refined to a point of sheer mastery as he embraces the full panoply of gifts, and the full range of talents, that he has honed over a career spanning several decades. The dignity of persona, the beauty of embodiment, the authenticity of humanity and the fluidity of moral aspiration mark his sublime performance as a Black father and husband and entrepreneur and friend whose intertwined worlds both unravel and then tighten around the core of his unfolding identity. The way he channels these competing interests and sometimes conflicting roles yields a performance of majestic complexity. This is Denzel as past master, as Black masculinity winnowed to its finest expression, as walking Black excellence, as rhetorician of the highest order channeling epic literary invention from the street poetry of @nas, and as unmitigated Black genius.
