In their first semester of the Great Books program, Pepperdine students enter the Great Conversation by reading the foundational texts of Western Civilization, including:
Homer, The Odyssey
Sophocles, Oedipus the King
Plato, Republic
Aristotle, Nicomachean Ethics
Virgil, Aeneid
At Pepperdine, we believe the Great Books offer something profoundly countercultural by engaging with the deepest questions of human life: What is justice? What is love? What does it mean to be free, to suffer, to lead, to worship, to hope?

When Erika Kirk spoke the words on the man who killed her husband: “That man… that young man… I forgive him.” That moment deeply affected me. I have struggled for over 60 years to forgive the man who killed my Dad. I will say those words now as I type: “ I forgive the man who killed my father.”
Peace be with you all.
@Franklin_Graham@MissionBBQ We loved @MissionBBQ when we lived in Virginia. So good to be among veterans who shared our love of country and core values that we carry with us for life. I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your son Bill Kraus. May Andrew rest in peace.
Pepperdine University’s Worship Summit 2025 brought us together last night, united in praise of the Name above all names. So encouraged to see 5,000 students, faculty, staff, and friends come out last night and seek and receive God’s mercy, his peace, and his unfailing love.

KTLA is on site to cover Pepperdine’s Waves of Flags display. It was around this time, 24 years ago, that I arrived on base at MCRD San Diego and learned that a plane had struck the World Trade Center in NYC. Today, we remember 9/11 and the 2,977 lives lost on that terrible day. We remember.
Thank you to @GeneKangTV from @KTLA for interviewing Senior Vice Chancellor @pepperdine Hung Le early this morning ahead of our 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony.
On Thursday, September 11, 2025, at 9 AM, the Pepperdine community will gather at Alumni Park for a remembrance ceremony honoring the lives lost during the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon 24 years ago. This year, the university welcomes Dennis Quaid as the distinguished honoree.
