The Dodgers have 2 unicorns. The best TV deal in MLB & Ohtani. They have capitalized on their TV deal & the negotiated rev share % (McCourt bankruptcy negotiations) in a way NO OTHER TEAM CAN or frankly would be allowed to moving forward. The other unicorn has allowed them to expand into a market & capitalize on his superstardom no other team could simply because the TV deal unicorn provides financial flexibility no other team has. So when fans, who are as educated as ever, have correctly identified an imbalance it shouldn’t be shot down with “everyone can do what the Dodgers are doing”. That is simply not true. I argued that other teams could pull the same “deferral levers” as the Dodgers but they just can’t do it on the same level & it’s because of Unicorn #1. At the end of the day the Dodgers have worked the system in place to their benefit. They aren’t cheating. They’re maximizing opportunity.
