@thomwiseman@lukerobertblack@Jxxxr NI contributions go into the National Insurance Fund primarily to pay for pensions and contributory benefits. The NIF is topped up from general taxation.
@GrahamBridge3 I'm not yet a pensioner. I'm still working and paying taxes to support pensioners. I'm happy to do this. I'm not happy to pay taxes so that other people of working age can sit at home!
@Jeremy_Hunt No - we need to consider how pensioners are expected to live on just £12,500 per year, most having worked for many years, when we are paying people of working age to sit at home and contribute nothing to the economy.
I strongly oppose the removal of the pensions triple-lock.
More than 2 million pensioners live in poverty. They will be the ones who suffer the most by taking away pension security.
We must protect the principle of universalism. That is why we opposed cuts to winter fuel - and that is why we must oppose any means-testing of the state pension.
This isn't about old versus young. This is about the super-rich versus the rest. That's why we should be taxing wealth to fund social care for all.
@Jan_Leeming It is but unfortunately so many people simply can't afford exorbitant vets fees, insurance costs even decent dog food is expensive. I'm fortunate enough to be able to afford the costs but it's a sad world we live in now.
