The correct term, Stephen, is “democracy.” The kind that believes the people deserve to know how their government operates, especially when that power decides who gets detained, deported, or denied due process.

Oversight isn’t betrayal, it’s the backbone of a republic. The idea that tracking government conduct is somehow sinister tells you everything about who fears daylight and why.

(And let’s be honest, the last people who should lecture anyone about “transparency” are the ones who made cruelty a policy platform.)

You want a term for Democrats creating a system that documents ICE operations? Call it what it is: accountability. It’s what separates democracy from autocracy, public service from power abuse.

Democracy doesn’t crumble because someone builds a tracker. It crumbles when those in power convince people that watching the government is the same as hating it.

@DrNeilStone I was a teacher so got my shot in the 2nd cohort. I’ve had every booster since. I’ve also had Covid twice. Each time I had let the booster lapse. I now get it every 4-6 months as I am over 65 and a cancer survivor. No regrets and no problems.

@rickhasen This assumes that all voters will only consider self interest and that children have a rational brain. Neither of which is true. The more rational approach would be to educate people in the ways that the public good is in individual as well as collective best interests.

So much disinformation on this site tonight in the wake of the horrific Kirk murder, with conservatives cynically suggesting that all of the political violence in this country comes from the left.

In fact it’s the opposite. Here are the facts for those with short memories:

The man who targeted and killed Democratic state Rep Melissa Hortman was a Trump supporter.

The man who targeted the home of Dem Governor Josh Shapiro was a Trump supporter.

The men who wanted to hang Mike Pence on Jan 6th were Trump supporters.

The man who targeted and killed the son of Obama-appointed District Judge Esther Salas was a Trump supporter.

The man who tried to kidnap Nancy Pelosi and assaulted her husband was a Trump supporter.

The men who were convicted trying to kidnap Dem Governor Gretchen Whitmer were Trump supporters.

The man who sent pipe bombs to the homes of Obama and Biden was a Trump supporter.

There is no equivalent or even similar list of Obama or Biden supporters who have carried out similar murders, attempted murders, or violent attacks.
