Today, Pennsylvania is remembering State Trooper Michael Pahira.

A 17-year veteran of the force and a motor carrier inspector, Trooper Pahira dedicated his life to keeping our roads safe. Off duty, he was just as dedicated. He moved back home to care for his mother during her cancer battle.

His life was cut short on I-81 when he was hit by a truck while conducting a commercial vehicle check along the highway. The truck driver who hit him should never have been in this country, let alone behind the wheel of a big rig.

As we honor his service and sacrifice on the day of his funeral, my commitment to change the policies that allow illegal drivers on our roads is stronger than ever.

Rest in peace, Trooper Pahira.
