“The NIHR is the principal route by which the government invests in direct health research to improve the health of the lives of people in the UK and more recently, the lives of the people internationally."
@CMO_England's tenure was defined by one of the most challenging periods in modern public health. Leading NIHR during the COVID-19 pandemic, he oversaw a research system that rapidly mobilised to deliver urgent, high-quality studies at pace and scale.

🎈 At the #NIHRBRCLeicester, we’re celebrating 20 years of @NIHRresearch by highlighting how our research has driven real change in patient care.
We’re kicking things off with respiratory research - an area where Leicester has led the way.
From pioneering new approaches to managing #asthma and #COPD, to improving diagnosis and personalised treatments, our research has helped transform care and improve patients’ lives locally, nationally, and globally.
We couldn’t have done this without the patients who have chosen to give their time to take part in our studies. Thank you. 🙏

Today is the #InternationalDayofDance, and we’re celebrating how movement can bring people together and support better health.
At the #NIHRBRCLeicester's Dance and Health sessions, women from underrepresented communities can come together to dance (often Bollywood style) and then take part in relaxed health research discussions with a researcher.
Participants have built friendships, grown in confidence, and are now helping shape research that reflects their experiences. As Rebecca Pritchard, who initiated the sessions, said: “By integrating culturally popular arts with science, we can create a more inclusive and engaging platform for public involvement in health research.”
