.@DeputySecState: Ya que estamos en el tema del abuso del asilo, permítanme compartirles otra perla. El @StateDept completó recientemente una revisión exhaustiva de las visas DIPLOMÁTICAS y OFICIALES emitidas a representantes de gobiernos extranjeros para ingresar a EE.UU. durante el período de 5 años entre 2019 y 2023. Para ser claros, se trata de visas que permitieron a sus titulares entrar a nuestro país en misión diplomática u oficial EN NOMBRE DEL GOBIERNO DE SU PAÍS DE ORIGEN (en términos técnicos, visas “A” y “G”). Pues resulta que muchas de ESTAS personas solicitaron asilo en nuestro país. Piénsenlo por un momento: personas a las que se les permitió entrar a nuestro país en representación de un gobierno extranjero alegaron que debían permanecer aquí porque enfrentaban persecución POR ESE MISMO GOBIERNO.

El primer gráfico muestra las cifras de los 10 países con los casos más graves (he omitido los nombres de los países porque, como es de esperarse, estamos abordando el tema por canales diplomáticos). Sí, leyeron bien: hay un país del cual 420 personas que ingresaron con visas diplomáticas u oficiales durante este período solicitaron asilo (clasificado como un “evento I-589”), y otros 2 países superaron las 200. El siguiente gráfico muestra el mismo fenómeno en términos porcentuales: hay un país del cual el 17,25 % de todas las personas que ingresaron con visas diplomáticas u oficiales solicitaron asilo, y otros dos países superaron el 10 %.

Decir que estos gráficos evidencian un abuso sistémico de nuestro sistema de asilo sería quedarse corto. Pero eso se acabó. Bajo @POTUS @realDonaldTrump y @SecRubio, hemos instruido a nuestras embajadas en el extranjero (especialmente en los países con las cifras más alarmantes) a revisar estas solicitudes de visa con la máxima rigurosidad, y se pedirán cuentas a los responsables.

While we’re on the topic of asylum abuse, let me share another gem with you. The @StateDept recently completed a comprehensive review of DIPLOMATIC and OFFICIAL visas issued to representatives of foreign governments to enter the US over the 5-year period from 2019 through 2023. To be clear, these are visas that allowed their holders to enter our country on diplomatic or official business ON BEHALF OF THEIR HOME COUNTRY’S GOVERNMENT (in technical terms, “A” and “G” visas). Well, it turns out that many of THESE people sought asylum in our country. Let that sink in: people who were allowed to enter our country on behalf of a foreign government claimed that they must be allowed to stay because they faced persecution BY THAT VERY GOVERNMENT.
The first chart below shows the numbers from the 10 most egregious countries (I’ve removed the countries’ names because, as you might expect, we’re taking this up through diplomatic channels.) Yes, you read that right: there’s one country from which 420 persons who entered on diplomatic or official visas during this period sought asylum (classified as an “I-589 event”), and 2 other countries had over 200. The next chart tracks the same phenomenon in percentage terms: there’s one country from which 17.25% of all persons who entered on diplomatic or official visas sought asylum, and two other countries had over 10%.
To say that these charts highlight systemic abuse of our asylum system would be an understatement. But no longer. Under @POTUS @realDonaldTrump and @SecRubio, we’ve instructed our Embassies abroad (especially in the most egregious countries) to scrutinize these visa applications very carefully, and those involved will be held accountable.
