@think_or_swim The last time I heard someone boast about the number of “words” they had written, I was in primary school.
As for credentials. I’m taking about the serious stuff - university degrees.
@think_or_swim But if you don’t know the frequencies of basic weather conditions in Ireland, would it not make sense to go to college, and learn the science?
@think_or_swim You tweeted about mini-tornadoes last week, as though they were the sign of climate chaos. But Met Eireann said we normally get about ten mini-tornadoes a year.
And now you’re tweeting about white Christmases becoming rare - but they’re already rare in Ireland.
@KirkegaardEmil I prefer “data are”. But apparently the Financial Times, and other newspapers of record, have recently switched to “data is”. So the debate might be over.
@think_or_swim I drove 140km last week from Co Dublin to Co Waterford. The front of the car was covered with ‘bug splashes’. Had to clean them off yesterday.
It’s better to rely on proper data rather than chance observations that confirm your priors.
@john_mcguirk But Succession was on subscriber-based HBO? And Young Sheldon on CBS. So the numbers comparison seems unfair. Like comparing Curb Your Enthusiasm with Seinfeld.
@DavQuinn We need to be cautious in drawing general conclusions from an online survey with a 37% response rate. Is it likely to be truly representative of the Irish adult population?
@paulmurphy_TD@CatuIreland@COLCIreland Can you please remind me of the other political groupings in the twentieth century that didn’t approve of parliamentary democracy?
We have a new paper out!
Do second-level private schools add value to get Irish students into high-points univ courses? Not a lot.
We estimate private school students do 10% better on exit. But they start sec school about 10% ahead on standardised tests. https://t.co/68QhHfh9vg
New Publication:
Why are students attending fee-charging second-level schools in Ireland more likely to progress to high-demand university degree courses?
