How much time during the Galway West Bye Election campaign did journalists spend canvassing with Labour and the Soc Dems in Galway in order to get a sense of the mood on the ground...?
The official response from the Jewish Representative Council of Ireland. ⬇️
I would urge the @greenparty_ie @SocDems and @IrishLabParty consider the implications of this along with the legacy parties on @DubCityCouncil. I think they are distinct from SF and can see the hurt this will cause.
So after Irish media spent the entire day yesterday quoting speculative and unrepresentative turnout figures without context, as if they were fact instead of guesswork, and trying to imply projections based on this, turnout actually *increased*. As always, a waste of time #Aras25
A reminder that Irish media are going to spend the day talking about purely speculative, finger-in-the-air turnout figures from random boxes while presenting them as if there was any kind of formal, scientific monitoring of representative turnout actually happening

Great news from @Paschald that the exit tax for ETFs is being reduced! Something I have been campaigning for and a great move for Irish people and families investing for the future. A positive start for building a culture of investment! #Budget2026#SIU
@Oismur what's annoying but also fairly standard is that the Journal piece wouldn't just give you that context. Instead they are typically vague, use quotes out of context, and hope that they drive up enough anger as a result
@Oismur yeah she said people didn't understand/were confused about durable relationships specifically (not the referendums generally, like the headline says). And that people decided "if in doubt, leave it out" (which is an actual quote)
@Oismur I know Twitter is a very limited medium for proper discussion, but she was very clear in the interview this morning that she did accept the result. She said it twice and that the electorate is always right etc. Media like the Journal seems to love stirring cynicism for clicks
I want to be President because I love this country and I believe in the people of Ireland — in our communities, our shared strength, and the opportunity that exists in every corner of this island.
