Polykrikos hartmanii from Acapulco, Mexico.

Polykrikos are Pseudocolonial dinoflagellates that possess 1 or 2 nuclei per zooid and a pair number of zooids in the pseudocolony.

They also have some structures similar to those of jellyfish called Nematocyst-taeniocyst complex.

Spring is coming in the plankton in Plymouth's inshore waters as alien-looking, larval forms of worms and crabs are appearing in my plankton sample. @zeiss_micro

Protoperidinium

A chonky Dinoflagellate. The Cingulum is a line that runs through the equator of the cell, where a flagellum sits and helps the dinoflagellate steer

The line that goes down is called the sulcus and inside sits the second flagellum pointing downwards
